چکیده

LASTIC is a device estimating in vivo soft tissue elasticity. It uses negative pressure to deform the tissue surface and captures several deformation stages to trace the behavioral curve. Using Finite Element inverse analysis and a Neo Hookean constitutive law, the tissue’s Young modulus is evaluated. This paper compares LASTIC capabilities with standard tensile tests on four samples with elastic properties ranging from 10 kPa to 100 kPa. Although LASTIC overestimates Young modulus by an average of 24 %, it allows a first estimation of the elastic modulus of different materials.

Validation of a Light Aspiration device for in vivo Soft TIssue Characterization (LASTIC)

In-vivo characterization of soft tissue is a key step towards accurate biomechanical simulation enabling planning and intra-operative assisted surgery. This chapter presents the new version of LASTIC, a device measuring soft tissue deformations using a negative pressure. Its capabilities are compared with standard tensile tests on five samples with different elastic properties, i.e Young modulu...

Using a 3D Biomechanical Model To Improve a Light Aspiration Device for In Vivo Soft Tissue Characterization (LASTIC)

The LASTIC device [1] (Fig.1.a) was designed to fulfill these expectations. It can be sterilized and has already been tested during brain surgery [2]. LASTIC is based on the pipette aspiration principle: it applies a range of negative pressures while measuring the tissue deformation. In order to retrieve the mechanical parameters, those measurements are compared to a library of displacement hei...

Using a 3D biomechanical model to improve a light aspiration device for in vivo soft tissue characterisation.

Estimation of living tissue constitutive law is needed for patient-specific simulations during surgery. However, this task remains very challenging. The device used for characterisation must undergo sterilisation and must give real-time results to characterise tissues that can only be accessed in the operating room (e.g. brain tissues). The light aspiration device for in vivo soft tissue charac...
